Target Audience:

En-Safe’s (1992) CH-O2 Construction Heat Training, is approved by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). En-Safe is an approved Training Provider #000155415.

A CH-O2 certificate under Ontario Regulation 215/01 made under the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000, states that a person who is the holder of a CH-O2 certificate or the holder of a ROT (record of training) may activate a propane, natural gas or oil-fired construction heater or torch that has an input of 400,000 Btuh or less. This ROT can also connect it to or disconnect it from piping, tubing, a refuelling appliance, a container or a natural gas meter.

Our courses are primarily targeted for workers that perform tasks involving construction heaters and/or torches. The training may also be known as an ROT, Propane Ticket, Propane Training, Enbridge Training, or Union Gas Training.

On-Site training can be customized to include policies, procedures, and/or equipment specific to your organization. There is a maximum class size of 12 participants as stipulated by the TSSA.

FAQs:

Is there a pre-requisite required?

No, there is no pre-requisite required.

Can the participant connect, disconnect, and activate any construction heater?

No, the CH-O2 training is restricted to heaters that are less than 400,000 BTUs. The participants during the training will have hands-on practical, and application to the theory and practical that is included in the particular session. Specific instruction will be conducted on equipment that is available and will be documented as such by the instructor. Post-training application instruction may be required, even for equipment with the same fuel. This is clearly communicated to participants, and what is required to be completed.

Does it include all the fuels?

The ROT wallet card and certificate will identify the fuel(s) that the training includes.

Is the training acknowledged in other jurisdictions?

The TSSA regulates the training in the Province of Ontario only. Since the training includes the B149 CSA Standard Series, and refers to ANSI Standards, the training could be supplemented with post-training application instruction, applicable to the appropriate legislative jurisdiction, delivered by a Competent Person. Some restrictions may apply.

How long is the training valid for?

There is a legislated 3 year recommended expiry for the En-Safe (1992) CH-O2 and CH-O1 courses.

Does the Participant require an Annual review?

There is not a legislative requirement, however it is strongly recommended. See SafetyABC for alternative solutions.

Can emergency situations and procedures included in the training?

Yes.

Can the participant connect to a Natural Gas Meter?

En-Safe’s (1992) natural gas designated ROT will qualify participants to inspect a natural gas construction heater while in operation, move, and re-ignite a natural gas construction heater. RESTRICTIONS to the natural gas ROT apply to the connection to a natural gas meter set and activate the initial lighting of a natural gas construction heater.

Does the En-Safe (1992) ROT allow pipe work?

No for LPG and NG, a licensed gas fitter or the holder of a record of training for the purpose. En-Safe’s (1992) oil designated ROT is restricted to activating a fuel oil- fired direct or indirect construction heater with an integral fuel tank and/or construction heater with separate fuel tank that has been installed by an Oil Burner Technician (OBT). It does not permit the ROT holder to install piping or service equipment.
